Mark Segar Presents....

It is Halloween morning!  Mark Segar, the Head of School, stopped by to read this poem.  This is his last year at Waynflete.  He told us that this poem grew very popular and became a play, a radio show, a musical, a T.V. show, and a movie.  This poem sparked the character Little Orphan Annie.   Mark was also wearing a pumpkin pin he wore on the first day that he visited Waynflete in 1993.  Thank you Mark!! Happy Halloween everyone!                                                    -Nahum, Amber, Raines, and Owen                        LITTLE ORPHANT ANNIE                                      INSCRIBED                  ...

Watersheds

We started a new unit in 4-5.  We are studying Immigration and Industrial Revolution.  Kai and Linda are talking about immigrants of the past and now.  Nancy is talking about life in the mill. Tim is going to talk about water wheels and water power but he started talking about Watersheds.  This is what I learned and wanted to share it with you.  I used Educreations on the iPad to show what I know.  Click the play button to hear and see my work.  What do you think?  Did I leave anything out?                                                                                                       -Julia

Past Presidents Poll

We are talking about how our government works.  We have learned about the three branches of government and started talking about a how a bill becomes a law.  We have watched some videos like Brain Pop , Three Ring Circus, and How A Bill Becomes A Law .  I had an idea a few weeks ago.  We want to know what President from the past you like.  George Washington?  JFK?  FDR?  You can click the bar graph picture on the right side of the screen to cast your vote.  The poll will be open until November 12, 2012.  We want to know what you think.  Vote!                                                                                                     -Owen PS - After the poll closed Abraham Lin...

Waynflete Star

The first issue of the Waynflete Star will be out October 18. Created by a 4-5 volunteer group, this newspaper highlights the things that are important to students. Students who are interested will meet the Friday after the newspaper comes out and the 2 Fridays after that. After picking a topic, students will be asked to write and if necessary, draw their article at recess and/or at home. It will then be checked by Tim and put into the newspaper. The newspaper comes out every 3 Fridays. Copies will be sent to Ben, Diane, and Mark Segar, as well as each of the programs and each of the writers. A few copies will also be sent to each homestation for others to look at. You can find the newspaper on the website too. -Thysie

Dialogue Continues

Community Scientists continue to review 4-5 students' research of invasive and native species at the Fore River Campus.  Our learners are looking carefully at the health of the marsh habitat and are basing their conclusions on the diversity of plant life they observe.  Review earlier posts to see more comments from researchers. Pachanga

Yesterday we had Pachanga.  Pachanga is spanish for party or joyful gathering and we have one every Wednesday for the entire Lower School.  We sing songs, celebrate birthdays, share our learning, and have visitors come and talk with us.  Yesterday we had Robin Jellis come in who plays the cello.  She teaches at Waynflete and she played different styles of songs.  One of the songs was a jazzy one called Take Five.  You can listen to it and see an old fashioned video here .       - Julia
