Convocation

Today was convocation. Convocation is when the whole school comes together for a gathering at the beginning of the school year. Each year there is a theme. This year's theme was the power of stories. There were four 4-5ers, three middle schoolers and three high schoolers that stood up and shared story experiences or the good things about stories that someone at school had had. Ideas came from ECers all the way to High Schoolers. There was a good music performance with a guitar and violin. At the end, a middle schooler brought a gong over to a high schooler and one of the youngest students hit it with a mallet three times. Each bang stood for one of the divisions of the school. A band played at the end. It was an amazing experience.   Charlie and Abie

Tidbits

Last week a letter was sent home with students and as an e-mail. This letter is filled with information about the 4-5 program. We hope you had an opportunity to read it. If not, please access Veracross to find a copy in the Timeline. While you are there explore the picture gallery! Tim

Peaceful Printing

By Nancy’s homestation Friday 4-5 did a community art project with Rikki the art teacher. We took various objects and brushes, put the paint on the bottom and pressed it on a canvas. We had 8 strips of canvas, 3 small and 5 large. She chose greens and blues because they are cool and calming colors. When she demonstrated she was silent, we were also silent when we did it. It was cool to watch the video we made. You could even see how expert we are at cleaning up and Nancy’s feet on the table at the end when she turned it off the ipad. And here it is:  Nancy's homestation design Tim's homestation design:

4-5 People Scavenger Hunt

Today was the second day of school in 4-5. We had a community scavenger hunt. We got a piece of paper with 16 questions like who was wearing new shoes or who read the same book over the summer. It was interesting to find out what our classmates were like and what they did over the summer. Charlie, Abie, and Sasha

Community Building

We learned a lot about 4-5 today. We learned about the 4-5 library, how things work, and where things are. We also did some games with Elicia. We had partners and balanced a wooden stick between us with our fingers. We needed to be good teammates. We also made spider web out of yarn. I liked it. It was a good first day. A.W.

Opening Reception

School starts today! After spending the summer reading, creating, attending conferences, and planning the teachers in 4-5 are ready to go. The rooms are organized, the folders are crisp, and the only thing missing are the energetic students. We know we will have a great year!
