Alpacas Visit

By Seth and Tobias Yesterday after the 2nd recess we went to the Sanctuary and we saw 2 alpacas named Rita and Suclair. Rita was white and Suclair was brown. We all gathered around the fence and talked to the owner, Marsha. We saw the alpacas because we were studying Peru for Global Focus. After we talked to the owner she went around with Rita and Suclair and we got to pet both of them. They were super soft and they didn't really care if we touched them. It was so much fun seeing Rita and Suclair! Made By Seth

P.E.

P.E. By Miles Livingston Sims-Sastelein-Henry and Liam Anderson. For these few weeks we are playing some fun games like basketball and ultimate ball. Now you might be thinking what's ultimate ball well it's like ultimate frisbee but with a twist you use a ball and try to throw it to your teammates at the end line of the basketball court. Also you need to pass it four times before you can score a touchdown! It's very fast paced and is energetic it's very tiring to play because it's a flourish of people running around it's very fun!    We are playing a variety of basketball games like dribble knockout and 21 Also we are doing 2v2s so it's really awesome! We played shooting games like around the world, regular knockout, and a game when you have a team and your team tries to make it to 10 doing shots from all different angles.Basketball is a cool game to play and is fun to be partnered up with your friends to play all sorts of games. ...

Colin and Kara's visit

On Tuesday, February 2nd my Dad and Stepmom (Kara and Colin) came in to talk about Peru. First, Kara showed us the pictures she took and talked about them. She passed around some clothes and weavings she bought in Peru and showed us some flavored salt from a salt farm. Dad then passed around some Peruvian carved rocks he made. When they were done with that we did a ceremony called Despatcho. We sat in a circle and had a folded up piece of paper and some items all around us. There were rose petals, lentils, rice, and gummy bears. Then we took turns going in the circle and sprinkling the items in the middle square then we blowed on a leaf to make a wish and put that in. When everyone had done it we folded it up then me and Yen (Yenenesh) went in and held down the string while dad tied it around it was SUPER cool! By Jaden

Afro-Peruvian Sextet

On Tuesday and Wednesday we got to meet th e  Gabriel Alegria Afro-Peruvian Sextet . Hearing them perform was really f un! They had the stand up bass, the hand drum, the classical guitar (with amp), the drums, the trumpet, the saxophone, the alto saxophone and the flugelhorn. They even played a donkey jaw! It was amazing how Walter (the guy who plays the bass) jumped in at last minute! I thought it was cool how they used the bottom of the plunger to eco the saxophone sound. I have heard it before but never known how it was done! By Ivy I thought they were really good because of their cool instruments. My favorite instrument was the donkey jaw bone. Their usual double bass player was sick so they had a replacement who had just learned the music on the drive up. He will practice more so he can be ready for the concert. I thought it was cool that the music had African, Peruvian and jazz all mixed together to make a new kind of music. I wonder how all these musical styles got mixed...

Spinning Peru style

Spinning by Bella and Cece This year in themes we are studying Peru. Themes is where each class rotates to the other home stations learning about different parts of Peru. In Nancy's class we’re studying weaving and spinning in a Peruvian style. We're using Drop Spindles to make our yarn. We make the yarn out of wool. The spindles are made out of a medium wooden disc with a small hole in the middle and a stick. We put the stick through the hole then put two rubber bands on each end. We got some wool and pulled it until it was thin. We wrapped the wool around the stick and then we started to roll the wool and like magic the wool started to turn into yarn!  We found it was really, really fun to make the yarn! We hope you like the article!
