MSBA Voting

At the beginning of the year Laurel told us about the MSBA books we could read. There are a lot of good books on the list and we could read them. If we read three or more we could vote on the best and the book could get an award. All the kids in Maine who are in the 4th through 8th grades can vote. Voting started today! Laurel showed us the ballot we could use. After March 31st Laurel will tell us what the state winner was and the Waynflete winner! "I read Ms. Bixby's Last Day for Lit class. I think it is a good book and you should read it. It has an ending that is sad but you will be satisfied." "I am reading Soar for DIRT. I like that it is about a person who is changing to be what they want to be." "I am reading Fuzzy for DIRT. It is really good. It is about a robot named Fuzzy." We read Save Me A Seat for QT. "I liked the quote, 'The world is full of Dillon Samreens.'" "It is a book about people making assumptions abo...

Simple Machines

In science class we learned about simple machines.  Simple machines make work easier. The six simple machines  are pulley, screw, inclined plane, wedge, lever and wheel and axle.  We studied the screw this week and for the experiment we made  little helicopters out of paper and for the weight we used a paper clip.  Then we tweaked the helicopters to make them better. The video is a  helicopter flying and the picture is of the original and the tweaked one. Diego and Noa

Global Focus - Ethiopia

Every year we study the culture of one country. We have learned about Morocco, Japan, Russia, and Cuba to name a few. This year we studied Ethiopia. During global focus week we had visitors come in and teach us the main language of Ethiopia, Amharic. We learned about the colors of the Ethiopian flag. Red r epresents all the lives that have been lost for the country, yellow is for religious freedom, and the green is for fertile soil. On Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday we had Ethiopian food that we cooked. Most of the food was a type of Wat. The three types of Wat were Mesir Wat with Ayib, Gomen Wat and Atakilt Wat. Everyone loved the injera! We also had a special Pachanga. In this Pachanga we danced and saw how people roasted coffee in Ethiopia. Over all the is is one of our favorite g lobal focus weeks.
