Independent Project = IP

IP stands for Independent Project. Each student studies a topic and writes a paper on that topic. It has to be loosely related to our curriculum, like Jenny who is one of our classmates, is doing Lewis and Clark because we studied the Oregon Trail. Noa, another one of our classmates, is doing the inventors of LEGOS because we studied inventions and inventors. The writers of this blog post, Rodas and Yasmine, are doing France and Morocco. We liked that we got to pick our topics. Each student must also make a visual aid. It can be a poster, diorama, paper mache, a structure like the Eiffel Tower, or any other thing you can think of. We will present our IPs to our classes and families after break. Rodas and Yasmine

Invention Convention

After February break we learned about Simple Machines and basic physics. Then we tried to put what we learned into a project. We had to make an invention. Our inventions were all prototypes to ideas that could help solve everyday problems. The prototypes varied in sizes and shapes. There was a slime machine, a design to make warmer rooms and alarm clock beds. We worked on inventions for 2 1/2 weeks. Some of the inventions did what they were supposed to do. The invention convention lasted about 55 minutes. There were a lot of people there and we had a lot of questions to answer and got a lot of feedback. In the end we got to take or inventions home. We had a really fun time doing this. Kirby and Henry We personally thought it was awesome to see all the different inventions. There were cool ideas and the prototypes did a lot of things. It's awesome and I love the idea of being a inventor. Rafe and Mercy

Health Class

This time of year is when we have health class. There is a fourth grade health class and a separate one for 5th grade. In fourth grade health class with Linda and Nancy we learn about having a healthy body and healthy friendships. We talk about how to be healthy like doing yoga and eating right. We also talk about how to be good friends. In fifth grade we learn about growing and changing. We grow and change all through our lives. We watched videos, did homework like talking to our parents about their experiences with puberty, and asked a lot of questions. Elefe and Noa

Poetry Anthology

In the winter we worked on poetry. We did a lot of work and looked at a lot of poems. My favorite poem to write was the winter poem and I like the challenge of rewriting my food memoir as a poem. Here is our book  on book creator.
