Winter Buddies

On Friday, 1/24/2020 we had an extra recess with our K-1 Buddies. Every other Friday we meet our Buddies. Sometimes we read or do projects like gingerbread cookies before vacation. This time we went outside! We had a ton of fun including building snow people, sledding and playing a big game of tag. It was fun to be out in the afternoon sun. Tobey and Dylan

Iceland Units

In 4-5 we do something called units. Units is where we learn about different subjects, usually in science or history. Once a year the whole Lower School does a unit together and it is called Global Focus. We pick one culture to learn and this year it is Iceland. In 4-5 we have workshops about Iceland. One of the workshops is turf houses. We all get 23 popsicle sticks and a bag of dirt and a glue stick with some other stuff to make the house. Then we glue the popsicle sticks to make a house then we add the dirt. Then you are done!!! But there is one more step……. To make the character for your house a nd then you finished your turf house!!!!! Turf houses were used long ago and some still have them today. Most people in Iceland live in regular houses though. Another workshop was about volcanoes and plate tectonics. We learned about different layers to earth and plates and at the end we studied different volcanoes. We voted on which volcano was the best volcano of all...

My Tutorial for C to F

This is my video about what I think is the easiest way to convert Celsius to Fahrenheit. I created it because in one of our classes we had to change the temperature. We are studying Iceland and we were changing Iceland's temperature to Portland's temperature. The class was focused on glaciers and climate change. Our other workshops are plate tectonics and volcanoes, turf houses, and sheep. It was a lot of fun to make the video and I wanted to make it because I know the other classes will do the math and this might help them.
