Mystery Trip

On Thursday, May 26 2016 the 4-5 had a Mystery Trip. It’s a field trip except we don't know where we are going. The teachers gave us a list of stuff to bring. They told us little white lies about where we were going but we knew that they were not telling the truth. One of the lies was that we would go to a bridge and we would stop all the cars except the orange ones and that the bridge would go up every five minutes. We got on the bus and drove a long time and we had no idea where we were going. While we were driving we saw a sign that said Sebago Lake so we thought we might be going there. Then we stopped at a little parking lot and next to the parking lot was a lake with a bunch of boats around it. Then Dan, our Spanish teacher, got up and said that we would be cleaning the bottom of the boats. He said that it was just a joke and the bus started moving again. Then we went to some roads in the woods and saw a huge lake and knew it was Sebago Lake. We got to the state park and...

Buddy Walk

On Wednesday 4-5 took their K-1 buddies to Payson Park. Once we got off the bus we went on a story walk of the Bugliest Bug. A story walk is a path in the park with signs on the edge. Each sign had a page from the book. The story was about a damselfly named Dilly. On each sign there is hand or body motion that you can do as you walk to to the next sign. Our favorite motion was the celebrating dance and the fly away fast from danger motion. After that we got to play on the playground. We also played a big round of buddy tag. Then we moved to the field and played sharks and minnows. After catching our breath we got back on the bus and went back to school. Once we got back to school, we exchanged buddy cards and said good- bye. Later in the day we sat with our buddies at Pachanga. This was a very fun experience. Eliza, Jane, and Ivy

Multi-genre Projects

We have just finished our multi-genre project. A few weeks ago we picked topics we felt good about. They could have been special places, animals, ideas, or things we are good at. Then we wrote three or more genres to tell a story about the topic. For example, I picked Brazilian Psycho as a topic. I wanted to write a horror piece. I have a fiction story called Brazilian psycho, an Email from the main character to his gang members, and then I wrote some poems. I got the idea for Brazilian Psych from this from a Bloom County comic strip. Other people have done a lot of other things for the Multi-genre Project. People wrote newspaper articles, texts, diaries, e-mail, invoices, poems in two voices, found poems, ransom notes, haiku, and even blackout poems. Here are some examples: Catherine's  Lake House           Ian's  Brazilian Psycho       Iris'  Forest Walk                   ...

Chorus Concert

We had our chorus concert. It was performed on May 5th. We were all very excited to perform in front of the crowd. Each song that we sung had a special part we all liked. Cripple Creek One of our songs from the concert was called Cripple Creek. It is an American fiddle tune. It's a very happy song and you can’t help but do a little jig. It's fun singing in two different parts because it sounds very cool. Renegades We chose renegades because it is a very jazzy and energetic song. For our renegades song we had a very important guest, named Morgan. She played the ukulele along with Nick, our chorus teacher. Plant a forest We loves this song because i t sent a really good message.   Firefly We all thought that Firefly was really fun to sing and perform for the audience. Especially when at times we sung louder and lower! We hoped you liked the concert! Sasha, Lucy, and Ivy

Spirit Week

Every year we have Spirit Week. Spirit Week is when people can choose to dress up. You do not have to dress up if you don't want to. We do it because it is fun. Each class picked representatives to share the ideas from each class. They came up with a great list. We will add pictures everyday. So check in. Cole, Charlie L., Jack, Rose. Monday - PJ Day    Tuesday - Character Day      Wednesday - Animal Day       Thursday - Wacky Day Friday - Waynflete Day          Hope to see you at Spring Fling!

Genius Hour Projects

Every year we get to do some Genius Hour Projects. That means we can do, make or research something. We pick things that we really want to learn more about. We make our own plans and learn about it on our own. So, it is like an IP but we make our own decisions about everything that we do. We do not have to have a finished project but we need to show learning. Some people are building a camera obscura, another made a Fresnel projector. One person is learning about home decor, another is doing rockets, someone is studying magnets in trains, and someone is learning how to be a magician. This year I am learning how to make silly putty and researching about it. My first try turned out to be a thick blue milk. After that I did more research and found something that works. This is a time lapse video of my putty. It is soft and I think if I work it it will harden up a bit. Tobias

Grandparents & Friends Day

Every year we have Grandparents and Friends Day. They get to comes to school and go into our classes. We share what we've done and what we've learned. They also get to go to Pachanga. This year we showed them lots of things. We also played a math game with them and we wrote some poems. We listened to the Most Important Book then picked a card to write about. Here are some poems that we wrote with our grandparents. It was a fun day. The most important things about a worm is that it makes more soil. It crawls out of the soil. It can be eaten by a bird or get kidnapped for fishing. But, the most important thing about a work is that it makes more soil. CD The most important thing about an alarm clock is that it rings. It can be loud or it can be soft. It wakes you up so you are not late. It is found in your bedroom. If you are still tired when you wake up you can hit the snooze button. But, the most important thing about an alarm clock is that it rings. SM The...

May Pole

In 4-5, the fourth graders are doing the May Pole.  There is a long pole with green and white strings. We grab a ribbon, either green or white. Once we are holding our ribbon, we do a weave, which is where green first goes over the people with white ribbons. Then the next time when the people with white ribbons meet up with people with green ribbons, the white goes over the people with green ribbons. We rotate back and forth while skipping around in a circle to the music. Then we switch and do a weave, where green ribbon people would go in and form a smaller circle inside of the white circle. Then we all skip around in a circle and it makes a wrap. Then we rotate and after that we do another weave. In the end we all hold hands around the pole and bow. Here is the vide from our performance. Jane
