The 4-5 Program is starting the year doing a lot of new learning. One thing we are doing is a project that focuses on us and our identity. We borrowed the style of Robert Shetterly and took photos of ourselves. We colored them so they looked like paint strokes. We then put words around our portrait that represented who we are, our identities, and the truths we want to tell. In school we learned about a lot of projects. Another project is called DIRT, Daily Independent Reading Time. The difference is that this project is a year-long project and we have to read 7 books and meet with our classmates and teachers when we are done reading.
Not everything is a project though. Sometimes we do something for just one day. We had a unit about respect and will move on to other character traits soon. We also watched a video by Grace Lin that talked about how books are like mirrors and windows. Books have power! We also went on a community trip to Kettle Cove and went swimming. The parents also organized a picnic after the first few days of school. It was a lot of fun and we got ice cream.
The last thing that we liked about the start of school was having our first Pachanga. It is a community gathering and we all come together to sing songs.
That is life so far in 4-5. 4-5 really is something and the year is kicking off to a great start. Check in and see what is going on!
