Tales Of A 4-5 Something

This year we studied immigration. We learned about immigration in our past and immigration today. Becuase we were learning about immigration we were invited to a citizenship ceremony at the Federal Courthouse. We went and saw people from all over the world becoming citizens of America. They stood and took an oath and everyone who wanted got a picture with the judge. Everyone at the courthouse was very nice. They saved us seats and we learned about the history of the courthouse and courts in our country. The experience was really fun and we were happy to be a part of the people's special day. On Tuesday, as a part of our writing workshop class, we did something called the Oreo Challenge. We started by writing about what would make a perfect day. Then we drew lots of small pictures in circles about our perfect day. At the end, Tim and Nancy gave us an oreo and we had to show something about a perfect day but needed to use part of the cookie. It was very fun and delicious at the end because we got to eat an oreo. We did all this because we were practicing reflecting. Everytime we wrote or drew we needed to think "I notice...becuase.." and "I wonder." Emile and JJ

Our book brackets are shrinking! We now have four books left! For the first round we had 8o votes and this last round we had 54 votes. I wonder how many votes we will get this round? This week we had la crema wich was on March 19 where we burned our fallas. Fallas are paper mache figures. Every year in Spain people make gigantic fallas and then burn them on la crema with huge controlled fires and sing Valencia the song. Some of the fallas are taller than the buildings! People dress up (fallaras), march, and eat paella. Our fallas were small and the fire was a campfire. We even had an amazing paella which is a traditional food with rice sometimes meat and peppers and other goodies. It was so yummy! Ami and Harper

There were a lot of votes for round 1! Votes came from far away places like London, Miami, and La Crosse, Wisconsin. A lot of votes came from Maine too. We s tarted with 16 books and now we have 8. In the spirit of March Madness, we created a bracket where a champion will be decided. Which book will become the champion? Our class talks about books all the time.
