Each year we do IPs where we choose a topic to study and do lots of research on it. We each get a book from the library, write an expert, get good information on websites, and use a database to get good articles.
For example, some of the IP topics are: sea urchins, bees, puffins, Charles Schultz, Mt. Fuji, Harriet Tubman, Statue of Liberty, hockey, Russell Wilson, Marie Curie, and many more!
For the last two weeks we have worked to take notes on our topic with either note cards or google docs. We also write a letter to an expert.
Once we are done we will type it into a paper and present it. You also make a visual aid on it. You can make a drawing or a sculpture etc. It is very fun and exciting.

Every year in february we start I.P.s, wich stands for independent project. We travel to the library to collect our book. This year we, the authors, have chosen The White House and Marie Curie. A fun fact about Marie Curie is that she was the first person to win two Nobel Prizes. Also, a cool fact about The White House is George Washington had the idea for the White House but he never lived there. First we get to know our topic really well and then make an outline. That will be our map for writing. Then we write 3 or 4 paragraphs about our topic, an introduction, and a conclusion. Then we create a visual aid. Ivy made a diorama, a diorama is a little scene in a box. Ivy made Marie Curie's lab. Jack made a poster of the White House. When everything is set we share our presentations to our classmates and family. I.P.s are a really fun time of the year!
