Genius Hour

In 4-5 there is a project that we have started. It is a project where we invent, cook, make, and present. The project is called genius hour. Genius hour is when we choose something to learn, an invention, or something to make or cook (not inventions or products that are going to be on sale or in the store). We also learn how to make the invention or do the thing we want. First we have to list what we are going to do for our topic. Example: My topic is tie-dye and one of them is how to make natural dye. After we have listed all our options for genius hour, we learn how our invention is made or the skill is done and then we get to work on our invention or cooking. Then we have to put it in some sort of presentation that we will present to our class and the 2-3ers. This is a very fun and exciting project to do and learn how things are made. We are glad that we got this opportunity. Here are some Genius Hour Projects: -Tie-dye - Making a mini gumball machine -Desigining a faster roller co...

5th Grade Dance

When we got back from February break the 4th graders and 5th graders had their own PE classes. This doesn't usually happen. The 4th graders did Pickleball and other games. The 5th graders had a dance class. This year we did Salsa. Elicia and Patty taught us. We learned basics steps and made our own dance. We had two two lines and you can see how the dance looked by watching the videos. I think it was fun. I like the middle line part where we do some fun things with our hands. Now we get to see the 4th graders do the May Pole soon! Cole

Genius Hour

We are starting genius hour in 4-5! The way it works is you pick something that you’re passionate about and you spend at least 10 hours working on it! To start off, the teachers put up a Wonder Wall and we put ideas like to test, to make, to change, to learn and to do. Some examples are:  How do you make video games?  I wonder how the world would be without clouds. How do you string a lacrosse stick?  We haven’t started genius hour yet but we know it’s gonna be fun! By Connor and Charlie H.

Special Guest

We had an all school assembly this week and we got to hear a pipa. Wu Mann played her pipa for us. She is a famous musician and she was funny. Some 4-5 students hosted the assembly and others asked her questions. You can see her in the video.

Alpacas Visit

By Seth and Tobias Yesterday after the 2nd recess we went to the Sanctuary and we saw 2 alpacas named Rita and Suclair. Rita was white and Suclair was brown. We all gathered around the fence and talked to the owner, Marsha. We saw the alpacas because we were studying Peru for Global Focus. After we talked to the owner she went around with Rita and Suclair and we got to pet both of them. They were super soft and they didn't really care if we touched them. It was so much fun seeing Rita and Suclair! Made By Seth

P.E.

P.E. By Miles Livingston Sims-Sastelein-Henry and Liam Anderson. For these few weeks we are playing some fun games like basketball and ultimate ball. Now you might be thinking what's ultimate ball well it's like ultimate frisbee but with a twist you use a ball and try to throw it to your teammates at the end line of the basketball court. Also you need to pass it four times before you can score a touchdown! It's very fast paced and is energetic it's very tiring to play because it's a flourish of people running around it's very fun!    We are playing a variety of basketball games like dribble knockout and 21 Also we are doing 2v2s so it's really awesome! We played shooting games like around the world, regular knockout, and a game when you have a team and your team tries to make it to 10 doing shots from all different angles.Basketball is a cool game to play and is fun to be partnered up with your friends to play all sorts of games. ...

Colin and Kara's visit

On Tuesday, February 2nd my Dad and Stepmom (Kara and Colin) came in to talk about Peru. First, Kara showed us the pictures she took and talked about them. She passed around some clothes and weavings she bought in Peru and showed us some flavored salt from a salt farm. Dad then passed around some Peruvian carved rocks he made. When they were done with that we did a ceremony called Despatcho. We sat in a circle and had a folded up piece of paper and some items all around us. There were rose petals, lentils, rice, and gummy bears. Then we took turns going in the circle and sprinkling the items in the middle square then we blowed on a leaf to make a wish and put that in. When everyone had done it we folded it up then me and Yen (Yenenesh) went in and held down the string while dad tied it around it was SUPER cool! By Jaden
