Starting on 1/3/17 the 4-5 started there Japan studies. We went to our first theme class we got split into four mixed groups: ichi, ni, san, and shi which means 1,2,3,4 in Japanese. 1 was with Tim , 2 was with Kai, three with Linda, and four was with Nancy.
In Nancy's class we started making Shibori. Shibori is an art where you sew and dye fabric. It makes complex designs.
In Linda’s class we read books about Japan and learned about their culture. One interesting fact about Japan is that the Japanese birth rate is one of the slowest in the world.
In Tim’s class we learned about earthquakes, volcanoes, and the Ring of Fire. It has to do with Japan because earthquakes are a big part of their culture. We had worksheets and a map to get information from.
In Kai’s class we read a Japanese legend about the rabbit in the moon. We also made an origami monkey and an origami rabbit because they related to the story and they were traditional origami folds.
